District 2

JULY UPDATES

Our Path Forward – APS Update & How You Can Help Shape It

Superintendent Dr. Bryan Johnson recently completed his First 100 Days  with Atlanta Public Schools. During this time, he visited more than 75 schools and hosted 10 public listening sessions across the city. From students to teachers to families, the message was clear: our community is calling for stronger academic support, greater teacher investment, safer and more welcoming schools, and equitable access to opportunity for all children.

These insights directly shaped the newly adopted APS 2025–2030 Strategic Plan. The plan outlines a clear, bold vision of One District. One Goal for Every Child.

As a member of the Board of Education, I was proud to help lead the community engagement work that shaped this plan from the ground up. Together with my colleagues, we facilitated community conversations, visioning workshops, and value-setting sessions to ensure the voices of students, families, educators, and community partners were reflected in every pillar of this plan. Your ideas helped define our core commitments and keep equity and excellence at the center of our work. Follow the road that led to the the plan and the year in review here. I will share the final draft once all measures are final.

Now, as we look toward the future, your voice is needed once again.

Atlanta Public Schools is conducting a district-wide Comprehensive Facilities Master Planning process, which will impact every school building, cluster alignment, and long-term capital investment. I strongly encourage you to complete the Facilities Planning Survey  by July 31 and share it with others in your network. Your feedback will help shape the schools and learning environments our children will inherit.

Thank you for continuing to support our students, our educators, and the future of District 2.

With gratitude and resolve,
Aretta Baldon

Upcoming Listening Session with Superintendent Johnson and the Atlanta Board of Education now through November 11th.

Here are few things that may be helpful ahead of time:

These listening sessions will be informal with multiple ways to provide your feedback and questions. To ensure you feel comfortable and we hear from everyone, you will be able to ask and share out loud, electronically, and/or written. We will also compile and share back the themes, questions, and answers from across the district atwww.atlantapublicschools.us/APSConnects.
